City Of Naperville: Structure Fire In The 900 Block Of Hazelwood Drive

NAPERVILLE, Ill. -- At 2:46 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 20, Naperville’s Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) received a 911 call from the resident reporting a fire involving their home. A general alarm was dispatched to the reported structure fire. Subsequent to the initial call, PSAP received numerous calls reporting a fire at the same residence from neighboring people. A general alarm assignment consists of three engines, two ladder trucks, one squad, two ambulances and two shift commanders.

Five minutes after the initial 911 call, Squad 8 arrived on scene and reported heavy fire from the rear of the single-family dwelling, as well as heavy smoke showing from all sides. Squad 8 verified everyone was out of the house and deployed a hand-line to the main body of fire.

After the arrival of other Naperville Fire companies, multiple hose lines, as well as an aerial water stream, were utilized to gain control of the fire. The general alarm was upgraded to a box alarm response, bringing an additional three Naperville Fire companies, an Oswego Fire Protection District truck, and Chief Officers from Naperville, Warrenville Fire Protection District, Lisle-Woodridge Fire Protection District, Downers Grove Fire Department and Bolingbrook Fire Department.

The Naperville Fire Department was also assisted on the scene by the Naperville Police Department, Naperville Transportation, Engineering, Development (TED); the Naperville Electric Utility, Naperville Emergency Management Agency, The DuPage County Arson Task Force and Nicor.

The Warrenville Fire Protection District, Bolingbrook Fire Department, Darien-Woodridge Fire Protection District, Westmont Fire Department, Wheaton Fire Department, Oswego Fire Protection District and the Lombard Fire Department provided coverage for Naperville fire stations during this incident.

The occupants of the home were evaluated for burn injuries and smoke inhalation at the scene. One firefighter suffered a minor injury that did not require medical attention. The home incurred significant damage. The cause of this fire is currently under investigation by the Naperville Fire Investigation Team. The residence was determined to be uninhabitable due to smoke and fire damage.
