Coyote Attacks Dog In Naperville, Dog Survives: Report

A local family's dog survived after being bitten by a coyote in Naperville Friday night, NBC 5 reports.

NAPERVILLE, IL — A local family's dog survived after being bitten by a coyote in the backyard of their Naperville home Friday night, NBC 5 reports.

Alexia and Vince Gallucci posted about the coyote attack on NextDoor, writing that their dog, Riley, was "lucky to [be] alive." Riley was treated by a veterinarian and the family reported the incident to animal control.

Coyotes were spotted in Plainfield in late October, prompting Plainfield Police Commander Anthony Novak to share the following tips for residents:

  • Walk pets on a leash.
  • Keep garbage containers secure.
  • Accompany pets when you take them outside.
