Man Charged In 'Outrageous' Naperville Shooting Granted Pretrial Release: State's Attorney
Jermaine Badie is accused of shooting another 18-year-old in the chest after a fight on Oct. 28.

NAPERVILLE, IL — A Naperville man accused of shooting another teen in the chest has been granted pretrial release, according to the DuPage County State's Attorney's Office.
A community alert was sent out after police say officers found an 18-year-old Naperville man lying in a grassy area outside an apartment building, with blood on his chest and in the surrounding grass. The shooting happened just before 9 p.m. Monday in the 100 block of Testa Drive.
Another 18-year-old, Jermaine Badie of the 700 block of Chesterfield Avenue, is accused in the shooting and charged with aggravated battery - discharge of a machine gun and one count of unlawful possession of a machine gun. If found guilty, Badie could face between 12 and 45 years in prison.

According to prosecutors, investigators found that Badie and several other people were in the 100 block of Testa Drive when a fight broke out. When the fight was over, police say Badie pulled out a black and silver Glock with a thirty-round extended magazine, threading for a silencer and a switch to convert the firearm into a fully automatic firearm, and shot the victim in the chest before fleeing.
Badie was found by police a short time later and taken into custody.

Prosecutor say the bullet he fired entered the victim's chest a couple inches to the right of his heart, then exited through his back, hitting his lung.
On Thursday, Judge Joshua Dieden denied prosecutors' motion to deny pretrial release for Badie.
"The allegation that Jermaine Badie pulled out a fully automatic weapon and shot a man in the chest following a fight that did not even involve him is outrageous," State's Attorney Robert Berlin said. "Violent crimes committed with the use of firearms will not be tolerated in DuPage County. Our streets must remain safe, and my office will continue to vigorously prosecute anyone accused of threatening public safety, particularly in cases that involve dangerous weapons, as alleged in this case. I commend the Naperville Police Department for their outstanding work in the identification and apprehension of the defendant in this case."
As a condition of his pretrial release, Badie will be subject to GPS electronic monitoring.
