Naperville New Year's Resolution A Safe Bet

Police are taking a proactive approach to deterring crime in 2018.

NAPERVILLE, IL — Law enforcement is resolving to make this year safer by assigning each month of 2018 to a different theme that will educate residents on how to prevent crime. A press release from the Naperville Police Department said examples include fraud awareness, burglary prevention, alcohol and internet safety. They're calling the campaign, "A Safer Naper."

Every month, tips and tactics for the assigned theme will be posted on the department's website and to social media with the hastage #ASaferNaper. The topics are intended to enhance safety. For every month, someone who uses the hashtag will be randomly selected to win a $25 Downtown Naperville gift card. Topics will also be posted on flyers around town, and, in some instances, incorporated in community presentations.

Naperville's crime rate is relatively low for a community of its size, said Police Chief Robert Marshall.
