At its March 10 meeting, the Naperville Park District Board of Commissioners approved a resolution to begin a 60-day period of consideration prior to naming the 8,600 square foot fitness center at Fort Hill Activity Center the “Raymond J. McGury Fitness Center.”

Ray served as executive director for the Naperville Park District from 2008 to 2022 and was influential in pursuing health and wellness for the Naperville community. In recognition of his personal commitment to the development of Fort Hill Activity Center as the popular facility it is today, the Board of Commissioners wishes to name the fitness center within Fort Hill Activity Center the “Raymond J. McGury Fitness Center.”
The Park District’s naming policy allows the Board to name facilities for persons who were dedicated and essential to their creation and service. Recent examples include the Glen Ekey Driving Range at Naperbrook Golf Course and the Ron Ory Community Garden Plots.

During Ray’s tenure as executive director, Naperville Park District made significant strides toward its mission of promoting healthy minds, healthy lives and a healthy community. Under his leadership and together with board and staff, the District completed many key projects, including Fort Hill Activity Center, expansion of Nike Sports Complex, remediation of Sportsman’s Park, development of Knoch Knolls Nature Center, renovation of Centennial Beach, and the development of the 95th Street Community Plaza and Wolf’s Crossing Community Park.
