Theresa Cizmar, age 69, of Orland Hills, passed away peacefully surrounded by love at Northwestern Memorial Palos Hospital on Saturday, December 27, 2025. She was born on June 14, 1956, the daughter of Walter and the late Mary Lou Ekert, in Chicago, IL.

Theresa attended Moraine Valley Community College, where she proudly earned her degree as a phlebotomist. She cherished the simple joys of life and found peace and happiness in caring for her garden, sewing thoughtful creations, and preparing meals and desserts that filled both the home and hearts of those she loved. Her kitchen was a place of warmth, laughter, and generosity, where no one ever left hungry. When her hands were finally at rest, Theresa delighted in unwinding with a well-made martini, while watching The Sopranos, or enjoying the sound of Prince flowing through the speakers.

No joy compared to the memories Theresa made with her grandson, Karter. Through him, she found endless love, boundless pride, and a light that warmed her heart every day.

Theresa is survived by her children, Emma Peoples, and Brian (Amanda) Peoples; her grandchildren, Adrianna, Karter, Alani, and Aubree, and her dad, Walter Ekert. Many nieces and nephews also survive.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Mary Lou “Mitzi” Ekert (Peuvon); and her sisters, Karen Masielski, and Janice Williams.

As it was her request, cremation rites have been accorded. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in her name to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
