Person Of Interest In Custody In Naperville Fatal Shooting: Cops

Naperville Police took the person in following an hours-long standoff at an apartment complex where a person was shot by a known assailant.

NAPERVILLE, IL — A person of interest is in custody after Naperville Police said that a man was shot and killed at an apartment complex on Friday morning.

Police took a person of interest into custody after an hours-long standoff with police at the complex, which is located in the 900 block of Fairway Drive, police said Friday afternoon.

The victim was found with a gunshot wound on Friday morning and was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said. Officers said that the victim and person of interest knew one another and that was not a random incident.

Police have not released any information about the suspect or the victim. Apartment residents were told to remain inside after the shooting and while the standoff was taking place, police said.

The person of interest was taken into custody just before 4 p.m. on Friday. Police said that they will release more information as it becomes available. The shooting remains under investigation and the DuPage County Coroner’s Office is conducting its own investigation. Police said that information from the coroner’s office would not be made available until Saturday at the earliest.
