Police Investigating Utility Box Vandalism Spree

The is investigating a recent spree of vandalism targeting city utility and electrical boxes.

Police reported that 23 electrical boxes were defaced, or "tagged" with graffiti between late Sunday night and early Monday morning. The first incident was reported at 9:44 p.m. on Sunday, May 13 and the last discovered around 2:30 a.m. on Monday. 

Boxes were tagged from the downtown area near Ellsworth Street and Benton Avenue to the south-end of the community at Hobson Road and Naper Boulevard.

While utility boxes appeared to be the primary targets, graffitti was found on one window of a Pace bus stop vestibule. 

All of the incidents are believed to be related as the word "snow" was found written in red or white paint on many of the boxes, according to Sgt. Gregg Bell, Naperville Police Department spokesman.

Bell said the incidents are part of an "ongoing investigation" and the department is currently trying to resolve them. No estimate on the cost of the damage was given.
