Rotary's St. Paddy's Day 5K Registrations Going Fast

Everyone is a little bit Irish on St. Patrick’s Day and for anyone who wants to start the day off on a healthy note, before imbibing green beer, what better way to get the day going than with a run. 

The Rotary Club of Naperville Sunrise is hosting its St. Paddy's Day 5K road race through downtown on March 17.

Those considering running the race may want to register soon, because according to the Rotary Club, registration is outpacing last year’s schedule. Only 2,200 runners will be allowed to register and it is expected registration will close before race day. On Thursday morning, there were 1,595 registrations remaining — and the number was steadily decreasing by the minute.

The run kicks off at 8 a.m., prior to the West Suburban Irish St. Patrick’s Day Parade. The 5K will benefit three local organizations, Family Shelter Service, Samaritan Interfaith and the Edward Foundation, according to the race website.

In addition to helping out the three local organizations, new and used running shoes will also be accepted and donated to the Winged Foot Foundation, a nonprofit, which provides the shoes to student athletes in need in the Chicago area, according to the race website.

Volunteers are also being sought to help out during the race, according to the race website.

The fee to enter the race is $35 and that includes a Reebok technical T-shirt and an after the race party with green beer.
