Sandra Bland's Mom Joins Hillary Clinton in Chicago
"Selfless in sitting down with a roomful of mourning mothers," Geneva Reed-Veal said of Clinton. "I'm one of those mothers."
Clinton’s polls have shown a strong standing with the African-American voting community. Wednesday, Clinton set out to solidify that good rapport with a campaign stop in Chicago’s historic Bronzeville neighborhood. Clinton organizers were happy with the rally’s turn out of 400 energized supporters.
“Selfless in sitting down with a roomful of mourning mothers,” Geneva Reed-Veal said of Clinton in introducing her to the crowd. “I’m one of those mothers.”
Among the topics discussed were police brutality and gun violence- both of which have been ongoing problems for the city.
Clinton mentioned Bland’s death in a Texas jail cell and 17-year-old Laquan McDonald’s death by the hand of a Chicago police officer who shot him 16 times.
Clinton also called out Illinois Republican Gov. Bruce Rauner, for giving a 2017 budget address while he still as no budget from 2016.
“This is material for some kind of sitcom,” Clinton said.
