Should Downtown Naperville Walgreens Be Allowed to Sell Liquor?

Vote in our poll.

Should Naperville’s downtown Walgreens store be allowed to sell alcohol? Under current municipal code, the city’s 10 Walgreens stores are too small to be able to sell alcohol. The company approached the Liquor Commission this summer seeking licenses.

The Liquor Commission crafted a compromise that would allow sales in the stores outside of the downtown area, with several restrictions, including:

  • no single-serving sizes
  • sales end at 10 p.m. if no licensed pharmacist is on the premises, otherwise sales end at 1 a.m. weekdays and 2 a.m. weekends

Walgreens, however, still wants a downtown licenses. City officials are concerned about that because of problems with drinking in the area.
