Update: Jailed Naperville Man Allegedly Stabbed Woman in Neck, Failed in Murder Bid

The Naperville man "once had a relationship" with the woman, an official said.

NAPERVILLE, IL — A Naperville man allegedly stabbed a woman in the neck at a townhouse on Aurora’s southeast side.

Steven Karpinski, 40, was booked into the Will County jail on charges of attempted murder, aggravated domestic battery, aggravated battery, unlawful use of a weapon by a felon, interfering with the reporting of domestic battery and two counts of domestic battery in connection with the Saturday afternoon attack.

County records showed Karpinski had been booked into custody on a murder charge early Monday morning.

Karpinski allegedly stabbed the woman at a townhouse on Hillsboro Boulevard, said spokesman Dan Ferrelli.

“The woman suffered a severe, but non-life-threatening stab wound to her neck and continues to undergo treatment at an Aurora hospital,” Ferrelli said in a statement.

“After allegedly attacking the woman, Karpinski fled the scene in his pickup truck and was not located by authorities until” Sunday, he said. Karpinski was “taken into custody without incident by Aurora Police in the area of Normantown Road and Schoger Drive in Aurora.”

Karpinski “once had a relationship” with the woman he allegedly stabbed, Ferrelli said.

A woman answering the phone at Karpinski’s Denison Road home declined to discuss the matter.

“I don’t want to talk about it,” she said.
