Winfield Man Attempted To Break Into Naperville Smoke Shops: Police

The 18-year-old was arrested in connection with at least two attempted break-ins and cops say he may be tied to more smoke shop burglaries.

NAPERVILLE, IL — An 18-year-old Winfield man was arrested this week in connection with an attempted break-in at a Naperville smoke shop after he unsuccessfully attempted to break into another shop earlier in the week, police said.

Police have not identified the man, who has been charged with felony attempted burglary, felony possession of burglary tools, and misdemeanor criminal damage to property, police said Friday.

Police are investigating whether the man may have been involved in other smoke shop burglaries that have taken place in recent weeks, police said.

Naperville police arrived at an Ogden Avenue smoke shop at 2 a.m. this week after an alarm went off at the shop. Officers found that the front door to the business has been damaged, but that no break-in had taken place.

Knowing of the recent break-ins, police believed the person may try to break into another store. Officers went to a smoke shop in the 2700 block of West 75th Street, where they saw a suspicious vehicle parked in front of the shop. Officers determined that the Winfield man had attempted to break into that shop and took him into custody.
