Business Owner's Check Intercepted In Mail, Rewritten To $10K, Cashed By Stranger: Police Reports
The business owner reported the check washing incident to police on Jan. 2.
NEW LENOX, IL — A business owner told New Lenox police that someone had intercepted a check they'd mailed, changing the payee and amount by nearly $10,000, according to New Lenox police reports.
New Lenox police were called to the 300 block of Alana Drive on Jan. 2, for a fraud complaint. The victim told police they had written a check for their business in the amount of $101.03, and sent it to the payee in the mail.
The victim later discovered the check had been altered and cashed for $9,450, made payable to someone they did not know.
