Class in the 'CPR of Mental Health' at New Lenox Police Department

The event was organized in support of World Suicide Prevention Day.

The New Lenox Safe Communities America Coalition, in partnership with Sertoma Centre, is offering a QPR class Sept. 10 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. in the Training Room of the New Lenox Police Department.

The class is free and is recommended for anyone high school age or older.

The event was organized in support of World Suicide Prevention Day and will follow a panel discussion on depression and suicide.

QPR stands for Question, Persuade, Refer and is the CPR of mental health. This valuable class increases public awareness of suicide and improves one’s ability to identify and refer those at risk for suicide.

Participants learn about the impact of suicide in America, common myths and facts surrounding suicide, warning signs, risk factors and protective factors.

Participants are equipped to intervene early by learning how to question, persuade and refer persons who are at risk for suicide. Participants are identified as Gate Keepers at the completion of the training.
