Liberty Students Study Fair Trade Through Bracelets

Spanish club connected with Nicaraguan youth by selling pulseras, or bracelets.

The Spanish Club of Liberty Junior High School participated in the Pulsera Project, which is a nonprofit organization that connects Nicaraguan youth with U.S. students through the sales of fair-trade pulseras, or bracelets.

These hand-woven bracelets are one of a kind and all of the proceeds are given to help Nicaraguans break the cycle of poverty.

Erin Marton, the Spanish teacher at Liberty Junior High School, discovered the project through advertisements on various social media outlets.

Spanish club members participated by selling these one-of-a-kind bracelets during lunch period from September 21 – 28. They also created advertisements and learned some important facts on life in Nicaragua.

This was an extremely successful fundraising project. Students raised $1,125.25! This money will be used by the organization to help encourage and promote fair trade jobs in Nicaragua and Central America.
