New Lenox Post Office Target Of Mailbox Break-In: Police

An outdoor mailbox at the New Lenox Post Office was broken into Monday, according to the New Lenox Police Department. The break-in marks the second time in as many months that users of the outdoor mailbox may have had their mail and personal information stolen or compromised.


Smash-And-Grab Thief Hits Car Parked At Trailhead

A hiker reported that her car was burglarized Sunday while it was parked in the trailhead parking lot. Palos Park police are reminding visitors and residents to lock their vehicles and not leave their valuables lying around in plain sight.

2 Home Burglaries In Mokena Reported In Past 5 days: Police

The Mokena Police Department is reporting two residential burglaries that happened just days apart and in the same general area, according to Mokena Police Interim Chief Brian Benton. The residents were not home in either case at the time of the burglaries, Benton said.


New Lenox Man Charged With Multiple Felonies: Police

The Will County Sheriff's Office has arrested a New Lenox man and charged him with multiple felonies in connection with businesses that he ran out of Frankfort, according to the Will County Sheriff's Office.

Stagg English Teacher Finalist For Golden Apple Award

Amos Alonzo Stagg High School teacher Lisa Thyer, who teaches grades 11-12 English, is one of 30 finalists in the state for the Golden Apple Award for Excellence in Teaching. The Golden Apple elevates the teaching and school leadership professions through recognition of master teachers and school leaders.


13-Year-Old Beaten, Robbed By Group In Tinley Park: Police

A 13-year-old was beaten and robbed by three men Friday night, Tinley Park police told Patch.

According to police, the teenager was walking in the 17500 block of Oak Park Avenue at around 10 p.m. Friday when three men approached the 13-year-old, forcibly took their cell phone and fled the area.

The teenager did not see how the group got away, police said.


Oak Forest Man Pleads Guilty To Firing Gun During Protests: Feds

A 30-year-old Oak Forest man pleaded guilty to firing a gun he had during a protest in May of 2020 in Chicago, according to prosecutors.

Kevin Tunstall, 30, was arrested on May 30, 2020, in the midst of protests surrounding the killing of George Floyd. Police said they found Tunstall near State and Harrison streets in The Loop at around 1:30 a.m. after hearing gunshots coming from the area.


Shoe Drive In Mokena To Benefit Two Local Charity Organizations

When Karyn Murphy decided to host a coat drive last month, scores of people donated. More than 340 coats were collected and donated to Tinley Park-based Together We Cope, a nonprofit organization that provides food, shelter, clothing and referrals for those in the south suburbs.

The coat drive was so successful that Murphy has decided to host a shoe drive Saturday, with Together We Cope and Christmas Without Cancer, based in Oak Lawn, being the recipients this time around.
