NEW LENOX, IL — A man selling a dirt bike tried to stop the sale when the buyer paid him less than was owed using fake cash, according to New Lenox police reports.
New Lenox police were called Nov. 18 to Walmart for a motor vehicle theft in progress. The victim told police they had negotiated the sale of a dirt bike to a man on Facebook for $4,900. They agreed to meet in the Walmart parking lot to complete the sale.
The buyer gave the man only $1,900 cash, and the seller believed the bills were counterfeit due to their feel and appearance, they told police. When confronted, the buyer got on the bike and attempted a getaway, but crashed it a short distance away.
