NEW LENOX, IL — A Minooka couple had a little extra something special to celebrate with the arrival of the new year—and theirs came earlier than originally planned.

Parents Lindsay and Kyle Vonderheide welcomed baby Hazel Josephine, who made her debut at 1:52 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 1—making her Silver Cross Hospital's first baby born in 2025.

Born at 7 pounds, 2 ounces, and measuring 20.5 inches long, Hazel Josephine was originally due Jan. 14, but Lindsay's doctor decided to induce early.

Though she was set to be induced Dec. 30, it turns out "everyone wants to be born on New Year's Eve and New Year's Day," Lindsay said — so the maternity ward was a little crowded, and they ended up coming in on the 31st.

Hazel—already adorably nicknamed Hazie Jo—is the first child born to Lindsay and Kyle, who is a Minooka police officer.

"First baby, first baby of the new year, it’s a theme here," Lindsay said, laughing.

"I think it’s so cool," she said. "It was my husband’s goal."

The proud parents were gifted a basket full of goodies, Silver Cross Director of Marketing & Communications Deb Robbins said.
