NEW LENOX, IL — The New Lenox Fire Protection District is currently accepting applications for firefighters/paramedics. The application deadline is Sept. 8. There is a non-refundable $35 cost to apply.

Starting pay is $66,705, according to information on the New Lenox Fire Protection District Facebook page. Benefits include: paid time off; holiday pay; academic achievement pay for college degree; medical, dental, vision and life insurance; and more.

To qualify for the positions, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Must be a United States Citizen.
  • No felony convictions.
  • Must be between 21 and 35 years of age at the time of application, or as otherwise exempt by statute.
  • High school diploma (or its equivalent).
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Must be currently enrolled in a paramedic (EMT-P) program; or have completed an EMT-P class and currently in certification process; or be a licensed/certified EMT-P. Must have a valid EMT-Paramedic license at time of conditional offer of employment.
  • Illinois Firefighter II or Basic Operations Firefighter Certificate issued by the Office of the State Fire Marshal (OSFM). No other certificates will be accepted
  • Valid Candidate Physical Ability Test and approved Ladder Climb Card due at time of application (issued within one year of application due date) and at time of conditional offer of employment
  • Residency required within the State of Illinois.

Additionally, the following documents must be completed and delivered by Sept. 8:

  • Confirmed online application (available after purchase).
  • Consent and release agreement, reimbursement agreement, and additional waivers (available after purchase).
  • Copy of high school diploma/GED.
  • Copy of valid driver’s license.
  • Copy of birth record as proof of citizenship. County or state issued birth record, passport or naturalization papers are accepted.
  • Copy of IL FFII/BOF Certificate issued from the OSFM.
  • Copy of valid CPAT and Ladder Climb certification dated Sept. 8, 2021 through Sept. 8, 2022.
  • Copy of EMT-Paramedic License; or proof of current enrollment in a paramedic program and letter of good standing; or proof of being in the process of certification. a copy of class completion certificate will be required as proof of being in the certification process.
