New Lenox Man, 21, Fired 'Warning Shots' During Fight: NLPD

The incident happened Thursday, April 10 near Pine Street and Central Road.

NEW LENOX, IL — A New Lenox man who police say fired a warning shot during a fight now faces a firearm charge, according to police reports.

Police were called April 10 just before 2:30 a.m. for a report of shots fired near Pine Street and Central Road. Police found Ryan Mettille, 21, who admitted he had fired a gun during a physical fight with another man, according to the report.

Mettille told police he had been confronted by a man who "engaged in a physical fight with him." Mettille went inside, got a handgun, and "fired shots into the air as a warning" to make the other man leave, according to the report.

Police found the gun, and located shell casings near the doorway to Mettille’s residence. The other man involved said he had not heard or seen the weapon being fired and did not believe any shots were fired in his direction, according to police.

Officers also recovered video that captured gunshots with muzzle flashes in the area where the shell casings were located.

Mettille was taken into custody and transported to the New Lenox Police Department. He was charged with reckless discharge of a firearm. He was processed and released.
