NEW LENOX, IL — A person killed in what was reportedly a road rage-related fatal shooting on I-80 in New Lenox Monday night has been identified as a Joliet man.

Lenier Clayton, 30, was killed in the shooting on I-80 West, according to the Will County Coroner's Office. Lenier was driving a vehicle involved in a two-car crash on the interstate entrance to I-355, the coroner's office said. The crash preceded the shooting, police said.

The suspect in the shooting—who has not yet been identified by Illinois State Police—fled on foot and was later captured by New Lenox Police, New Lenox Mayor Tim Baldermann said Monday evening.

Family members have started a GoFundMe to support funeral services for Clayton.

"We are deeply saddened by this tragedy and cannot find any reasonable explanation for why a person would want to dim such a bright light, especially for a traffic incident," the fundraiser reads. "Though we haven't received many details beyond what has been widely reported, we must go about the business of planning for Lenier's funeral."
