NEW LENOX, IL — A New Lenox Township public official arrested for DUI earlier in March had trouble standing and walking without help when deputies pulled him over, according to a report.

New Lenox Township Supervisor Donald Wennlund, 56, of Mokena, reportedly also refused to submit to a Breathalyzer and declined to take field sobriety tests, according to a Will County Sheriff's report.

Deputies pulled over Wennlund just after 1 a.m. on March 6, at 143rd and Chicory Trail in Homer Glen. The vehicle left the lawn of a home and "drove onto the road towards a deputy with its flashers on," according to reports. Deputies believed those in the vehicle needed assistance and curbed it.

The driver, identified as Wennlund, refused to answer deputies' questions, according to the report, and deputies "observed several behaviors that gave them reason to believe Wennlund was under the influence of alcohol." Officers noted the smell of alcohol coming from the driver and the car.

In court documents, deputies described Wennlund as "unable to stand unaided, and unable to walk without aid."
