Parkview Church Plans New Lenox Location

Considered one of the largest and fastest growing churches in the country, Parkview looks to New Lenox for new satellite location.

Orland Park’s Parkview Christian Church is seeking another location in New Lenox. Though much smaller than the Orland campus, New Lenox residents expressed concerns about traffic at the Sept. 28 New Lenox Village Board Meeting, according to a Daily Southtown report.

Parkview Christian Church sees about 7,000 people every weekend, mostly at the Orland location, located on Wolf Road and 183rd Street. That auditorium seats about 2,000, according to Pastor Tim Harlow of Mokena.

The Lockport campus, located at 1463 S. Farrell Road, seats about 250, he said.

The proposed 9-acre campus in New Lenox, which is currently a corn field, would be located at the southwest corner of Laraway and Schoolhouse roads. It would seat about 600 to 650 people, according to New Lenox assistant village administrator Robin Ellis.

A few residents who live in Sky Harbor subdivision, located across Schoolhouse Road to the east, voiced concerns about traffic, since the neighborhood has only one entrance, High View Drive.

Ellis said the developers conducted a traffic study, and village staff have addressed traffic with dedicated turn lanes. Also, once the area adjacent to Sky Harbor subdivision to the north at Laraway Road is finished being developed, more roads will be added to access the neighborhood, she said.

Harlow said Parkview Christian Church has been around for about 65 years. Originally, it was Tinley Park Church of Christ. Now, the church draws a congregation from as far away as Valparaiso, IN, and northern Chicago.
