New Lenox Man Builds Massive Snowman To Beat Boredom During Storm

Kyle Zdych was bored, and turned to a cherished childhood snowy day (or night) activity.

NEW LENOX, IL — A New Lenox man found himself so bored as the snow fell Nov. 29, he turned to his friends and asked a sweetly childlike question.

"Do you want to build a snowman?"

Not just any snowman, though. A giant one.

"Everyone said no," laughed Kyle Zdych, 20.

But that didn't stop the Lincoln-Way West grad. He got started at about 11:30 p.m, working to pack the snow from his yard into giant balls stacked one on top of the other. By 2:30 a.m., his creation stood 8.5 feet tall, and he needed a ladder to reach the top.

If he hadn't decided to build it, he would have been gaming or sleeping instead, he said.

The snowman is at Chestnut Pointe Drive and Gougar Road, first house on the right when you enter the subdivision.

If he melts?

"I'm gonna try to rebuild him," Zdych said.
