A tanker truck carrying liquid nitrogen rolled over on the ramp from I-355 onto I-80 near New Lenox early Thursday morning. The tanker rolled into a ditch around 4 a.m. on the ramp to westbound I-80. The driver was removed from the truck and taken to nearby Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox. A hazardous materials response was required as the tanker reportedly was leaking fluid.
Through the early morning commute, traffic was being rerouted on U.S. 6 to Gougar Road, south to U.S. 30 then east to the westbound I-80 on ramp. Crews remain on the scene as of 8:30 a.m. trying to remove the tanker truck.
