Village Of New Lenox: Free Disaster Preparedness Training

The CERT Program educates people about disaster preparedness for hazards that may impact their community.

NEW LENOX, IL — The Village of New Lenox will be hosting a Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) 20-Hour Basic Course starting on Sept. 1. The Course is free and will be held on Thursdays from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. through Oct. 13 from at the New Lenox Village Hall, 1 Veterans Parkway.

The Final Exercise, Graduation and Luncheon will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 15. All graduates will receive a CERT backpack containing various disaster preparedness supplies, CERT participant manual and a certificate of completion.

The CERT Program educates people about disaster preparedness for hazards that may impact their community and trains them in basic disaster response skills. Using the training learned in the classroom and during exercises, CERT members can assist during disasters when first responders are not immediately available to help.

CERT members who wish to continue with the New Lenox CERT Program upon conclusion of the Basic Class may do so. Graduates will have an opportunity to attend monthly training, as well as volunteer for a variety of special events.
