What's Summer without Proud American Days?

Here are five things to know about in New Lenox this week.

New Lenox has its own brand of summer activities that link Village Board action, the Village Commons, golf outings and, of course, Proud American Days.

1. The Village Board on Monday is expected to shed light on more details about the $9.9 million police department construction project. The consent agenda features:  

  •  Approval of Contract – Electrical Infrastructure–Police Department
  •  Approval of Contract–Site Utilities–Police Department
  •  Approval of Contract–Excavation Work–Police Department
  • Approval of Construction Manager Cost Authorization–Police Department

2.  Providence Catholic High School, 1800 W. Maple St., on Wednesday is hosting a Community Blood Drive.  Demonstrate your heart and donate a pint between 10 a.m.-2 p.m. The Heartland Mobile Center will be in the school parking lot. To schedule an appointment, visit Heartland Blood Center website.

3. The Dwayne Wade Elite Camp begins at 8:30 a.m. Thursday and Friday at Lincoln-Way Central High School, 1801 E. Lincoln Highway. This is the fifth year that the Miami Heat star has offered the program in New Lenox. The Miami Heat superstar is bound to stir some excitement around town. 

4. Proud American Days 2013 begin at 5 p.m. Thursday at 601 E. Lincoln Highway. The festival runs through 9 p.m. Sunday. The New Lenox Community Park District sponsors the annual event. This annual event is an all-American summertime festival. There are Big Wheel races, sand volleyball, plenty of music and, of course, the carnival rides.

 5. The 8th annual Make a Wish Golf Outing at Sactuary Golf Course, 485 N. Marley Road, is sponsored  by the New Lenox Auto Body Crash 1 Collision Centers, 290 E. Haven Ave. Check in is at 9:30 a.m.  Shotgun starts at 11 a.m. and dinner is at 5 p.m. For information, visit the website of Will County Crash1. Help an ailing little one get his or her wish.
