Dad Threatens Mom's Life, Sends Video of Rifle, Police Say

He sent a video of himself shooting a rifle at a shooting range, threatening to kill the woman and her new husband. An arrest is merely an accusation, not evidence of a conviction.

A 32-year-old Niles woman reported to police July 20 that the father of her child, a 30-year-old Park Ridge man, threatened her life, according to police reports. The woman said she ended their relationship nine years ago, but that the man has become increasingly hostile.

On July 20, he came to her family's home to pick up the 10-year-old daughter, but family members advised him he could not take her for a visit. The woman and man have no parenting agreement or court order that sets parenting guidelines, police said.

The man became angry and said he was going to kill the woman and her new husband, according to the report, and later sent a video of himself shooting a rifle at a gun range.

Police spoke to the man by phone that afternoon and advised him to stop bothering the woman. The man was upset that the woman keeps changing the terms of when and where he can see the daughter, and that he was in the process of going to court to get visitation rights, according to the report. He said he would not act on his threats; the officer told him not to go back to the house and he said he would not.

Police noted the man does have a valid Firearm Owner's Identification Card. They did not file charges at this time.

Woman Charged with Felony for Stealing $1,800 Of Jewelry, Goods

Maisun Badawi, 36, of Evanston was charged with Class 4 Felony Retail Theft July 21 after police responded to a store at Golf Mill Shopping Center. A security agent for the store said he had observed Badawi concealing jewelry and clothing into a piece of luggage and leaving the store without paying. He stopped her and found the items were worth $1,796. A Cook County assistant state's attorney approved felony charges. Her court date is Aug. 3 in the Skokie branch of the Cook County courts.

Rings Worth $4,000 Go Missing

A Berwyn woman told Niles police that she was shopping at a store on Greenwood and Dempster July 13 and put the three rings she normally wears in her front pants pocket for safekeeping. When she exited the store, she took her keys out of that pocket, and believes two of the rings must have come out, along with the keys, and fallen on the ground. She didn't notice they were missing until she got home and found only one of her three rings in that pocket.

She valued the two rings at $4,000, and said she contacted the store, but no one turned in the rings.
