An 81-year-old Niles man died suddenly Friday, the Niles Police Department reported Saturday.
The Niles Police and Fire Departments responded to a call from a home in the 8500 block of Betty Terrace for a man who had been found in the home's swimming pool.
The man, Michelangelo Volpe, 81, had gone outside to clean the swimming pool, police said. About 20 minutes later, a neighbor saw his wife trying to pull him out of the pool, according to police. Several neighbors went to help her remove him from the pool, and someone called 911. Â
The Niles Fire Department took Mr. Volpe to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital, where emergency room doctors pronounced him dead at 6:45 p.m. Police said there is no indication of anything suspicious in nature, and they are investigating what happened.Â
