1 Dead After Car Struck By Amtrak Train Near Northbrook

The Thursday night accident happened on the tracks near 495 Lake Cook Road. Metra Milwaukee District North line trains were halted.

NORTHBROOK, IL — A vehicle was struck by an Amtrak train at around 7:30 p.m. Thursday night, near the Deerfield train station. Northbrook Fire Chief Andy Carlson told Patch one person is dead.

According to Carlson, a southbound Amtrak hit a vehicle that was on the tracks south of the Deerfield train station. The vehicle was dragged to near the Edens Spur and was on fire when the Northbrook Fire Department arrived. He said Metra police are handling the investigation.

Metra said inbound and outbound train movement were halted as a result of the accident.
