NORTHBROOK, IL — Since April, members of Envision Unlimited, a Chicago-based company that serves people with disabilities, have ridden more than 2,000 miles on their bikes. In two weeks, the bikers will be racking up more miles at Northbrook's Ed Rudolph Velodrome.

According to organizers, the public is invited to 1479 Maple Ave. from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 19, to ride their own bikes or check out Envision Unlimited’s singles, tandems, tricycles, and duet bikes at the "Cycle the Track" event.

"Envision Unlimited and its Adaptive Cycling program is all about inclusion. We invite people from all over the Chicago area, whether they are new to cycling or experienced, to join us at this rare cycling track for a few hours of cycling fun promoting opportunities for everyone to live their best lives," Mark McHugh, CEO of Envision Unlimited, said in a news release.

Envision Unlimited members, and volunteers who ride alongside them, ride weekly at spots like Chicago's 606 Trail and Big Marsh Park from April through October. The Adaptive Cycling program, founded in 2017, is intended to create new experiences for people with disabilities and empower them to be more mobile and independent.

While some take riding a bike for granted, cycling can be a new experience for many Envision Unlimited members with intellectual, development and physical disabilities. The company says cycling can give members a "newfound confidence and interaction with their communities."
