Apple Closing Store At Northbrook Court: Report
The store, which opened in 2005, is one of the last tenants at the Northbrook mall.
NORTHBROOK, IL — After 20 years at Northbrook Court, Apple will be closing its store at the mall. Crain's Chicago Business was the first to report the news Tuesday. The store, which opened in 2005, moved to a larger space in the mall in 2017.
Brookfield Properties, the owner of Northbrook Court since 1995, has been planning a redevelopment of the 100-acre property for a number of years. In 2019, the Northbrook Village Board signed off on a $250 million redevelopment plan, which included $27 million in incentives to Brookfield. The pandemic slowed the plans at 1515 Lake Cook Road to a halt.

The redevelopment plan at Northbrook Court started to gain traction again in 2023. A representative from Brookfield, based in Chicago, presented a Conceptual Master Plan for the Redevelopment of Northbrook Court in April of that year. The representative said the cost of the updated project was still being discussed and determined, but admitted it will be more than the original estimate of $250 million. He did say it would generally be in the same proportion of the public/private ratio negotiated in 2019.
"Ultimately, our goal is to create a dynamic, thriving asset with best-in-class retail and restaurants set among the fabric of multi-generational neighborhoods," Ben Freeman, senior vice president of development/commercial with Brookfield Properties, said at the time.
