Blackhawks Sign Former Glenbrook North Student Jaycob Megna

The 31-year-old defenseman grew up in Northbrook and played youth hockey for the Glenview Stars.

NORTHBROOK, IL — The newest member of the Chicago Blackhawks has some North Shore ties. Jaycob Megna, 31, was signed off waivers from the Seattle Kraken Wednesday and will suit up for Chicago on the road Thursday night (6 p.m. start time) against the New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden.

Megna, who grew up in Northbrook, played youth hockey for the Glenview Stars and attended Glenbrook North. He also played for the Chicago Mission and Team Illinois before finishing high school at Mona Shores High School in Muskegon, Michigan. Megna then went on to a successful collegiate career at the University of Nebraska-Omaha.

Megna (6-foot-6, 220 pounds) has appeared in two games with the American Hockey League's Coachella Valley Firebirds this season, posting one goal, according to a news release from the Blackhawks. The Florida native posted NHL career-highs in 54 games played and 12 points (1 goal, 1 assist) with the San Jose Sharks and Seattle last season.

Megna's older brother, Jayson, also plays professional ice hockey, and is currently a member of the AHL's Providence Bruins.
