Burglars Use Rocks To Break Into 3 Businesses: Northbrook Police Blotter
Police said a fourth business was attacked, but the person wasn't able to gain access through the smashed window prior to fleeing the area.

NORTHBROOK, IL — The following information comes from the Northbrook Police Department and court records as a record of incidents reported to police and those arrested on criminal charges, which represent accusations by the state that are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Everyone arrested is presumed to be innocent unless found guilty in court beyond a reasonable doubt.
ARRESTS
NO VALID DRIVER'S LICENSE
Luis Guanquiza, of Chicago, is accused of having a suspended registration, no valid driver's license, operating an uninsured motor vehicle, and was arrested at 11:08 a.m. July 3, at Dundee and Laurel roads. A court date of Aug. 14 was assigned.

DRIVING UNDER THE INFLUENCE
Jacob C. Hudak, of Northbrook, is accused of speeding (62 mph in a 45 mph zone), driving under the influence, operation of uninsured motor vehicle, and was arrested at 12:30 a.m. July 9, at Willow and Waukegan roads. Police said they found several cans of beer scattered throughout the interior of the vehicle and Hudak appeared to be under the influence. A court date of Aug. 11 was assigned.

FAKE PRESCRIPTION DRUGS
Ashley A. Luksik, of Wilmette, is accused of unlawful attempt at acquisition of a controlled substance by fraud, and was arrested at 4:30 p.m July 9, in the 900 block of Willow Road. The pharmacy staff of a drugstore contacted the Northbrook Police Department when they received a prescription for Adderall, they knew to be fake. When police arrived, they spoke to Luksik, who was waiting for the prescription. Police say she admitted it was a fake prescription, knowing it was illegal to request the narcotics. A court date of July 10 was assigned.

INCIDENTS
CRIMINAL DAMAGE TO PROPERTY
A resident in the 1800 block of Fieldwood Drive reported at 12:50 a.m. July 3, someone had placed fireworks inside his waste collection bin and ignited them. The collection bin was damaged by the explosion. The total cost of the waste collection bin was unknown.
COMMERCIAL BURGLARY
- Three Northbrook businesses in the 3100 block of Dundee Road were burglarized during the overnight hours of July 3. The person had used rocks/concrete to smash through the front door windows to gain access to the stores. A fourth business was attacked, but the person wasn't able to gain access through the smashed window prior to fleeing the area.
- The owner of a computer company in the 300 block of Wainwright Drive reported at 7:17 a.m. July 7, someone had forced entry into his business and stole several high-end computer parts including CPU’s, flash drives and graphic cards during the overnight hours. While officers were processing the scene, they found the stolen commercial van that was taken from the 3200 block of Doolittle Drive. It appeared those involved had abandoned the van when it was stuck in the mud. The owner was contacted, and the van was towed from the scene.
VANDALISM
A Northbrook business in the 1000 block of Waukegan Road reported at 12:25 p.m. July 3, someone had smeared grease on the back door to their building.
CRIMINAL DAMAGE TO PROPERTY
Residents in the 3600 block of Torrey Pines Parkway and the 900 block of Bermuda Dunes Place called police at 10:23 p.m. July 5, to report someone had used fireworks to destroy their mailboxes. One of the mailboxes was completely destroyed while the other was only partially destroyed when the fireworks did not completely detonate.
STOLEN VEHICLE
- A resident in the 1800 block of Trails Edge Drive reported at 9:35 a.m. July 6, someone had stolen his 2025 gray Mercedes GLE450 from his driveway sometime overnight. He said the vehicle was unlocked with the key left inside. The vehicle was later located in the 7600 Block of Ridgeland Avenue in Chicago.
- A citizen reported at 3:02 a.m. July 7, someone had stolen their company's work van sometime overnight in the 3200 block of Doolittle Drive. The van had been locked, and the staff still had the keys in their possession. The van was later located in the 300 block of Wainwright in Northbrook.
- The owner of a business in the 3300 block of Commercial Drive called police at 7:51 a.m. July 7, to report his 2014 white F350 pickup was stolen from the business in the overnight hours. While investigating the incident, the vehicle was found in the 500 block of Zenith Drive in Glenview.
IDENTITY THEFT
A Sorrel Drive resident reported at 9:58 a.m. July 7, someone had illegally used his name to open an AT&T account in California and had a debt of $725against him. He found the identity theft when he checked his credit report.
BURGLARY TO VEHICLE
- A resident in the 2200 block of Farnsworth Lane reported at 2:04 p.m. July 7, someone had entered her 2022 gray Kia and stole a backpack containing sports equipment. The total amount of stolen items was approximately $500. It is unknown if the vehicle was left unlocked or locked while it was parked on the driveway.
- A resident in the 600 block of Charlemagne Drive called police at 3:18 p.m. July 7, to report someone had gained entry into two of their unlocked vehicles while they were parked in the driveway. Money and a pair of sunglasses were taken from one vehicle, and it appeared nothing was taken from the other.
PHONE SCAM
A Tudor Lane resident reported at 9:16 a.m. July 8, receiving a text message saying his bank account was compromised, and he needed to call the number listed to correct the matter. When the complainant called, the other person on the line convinced him to transfer $5,900 into another account, Crypto Wallet. When the complainant followed the instructions, he was locked out of the account as soon as he hung up with the person. The complainant has tried calling the help line with the new account, but to no avail.
