NORTHBROOK, IL — A water main improvement project that will take several months to complete is underway. The Village of Northbrook said work began Monday to replace the transmission water main on Dundee Road. The deteriorated condition of the current main is the reason for the replacement.

Officials said the work is expected to be "substantially completed" in June.

According to the Village, the contractor will primarily be working off of Dundee Road in the southern parkway and sidewalk area to install the new water main using trenchless methods. The project will connect the new water main to existing water mains at the intersections of Dundee Road and Ash Lane, Fair Lane, and Meadow Road. Officials said that throughout the project, there will be traffic disruptions at these intersections.

Ash Lane at the intersection of Dundee Road will be shutdown due to a large boring pit which is required to perform the trenchless installation of water main under the river.

Officials are telling residents there will be temporary traffic delays and detours, construction noise, and dust. Daytime lane closures will be conducted on Dundee Road using Illinois Department of Transportation traffic control standards. Additionally, the contractor will be permitted to store some equipment and materials in the parkway throughout the duration of the project.
