FedEx Driver Killed After Striking I-294 Wall Near Northbrook: Police

The early Tuesday morning incident has shut down a Tri-State exit to Lake Cook Road for several hours.

NORTHBROOK, IL — The driver of a FedEx truck was killed after being thrown from their vehicle Tuesday morning on I-294 near Northbrook. The single-vehicle incident occurred at around 2:23 a.m. in the northbound lanes.

According to Illinois State Police, the semi-trailer left the roadway for unknown reasons and struck a wall. The driver was thrown from the truck and taken to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries. They succumbed to the injuries at the hospital.

The incident slowed traffic in the area, closing the northbound Tri-State exit to Lake Cook Road. At 8:26 a.m., the Deerfield Police Department said the exit ramp "will be shut down until further notice" as ISP are investigating a truck fire. Motorists are advised to use alternate routes at this time. It reopened at around 10:30 a.m.
