NORTHBROOK, IL — Duke University liked what it saw in Jon Scheyer's first year at the helm of the men's basketball team, so much so that the Glenbrook North High School graduate already got a new contract. The Northbrook native, who led the Blue Devils to the Atlantic Coast Conference tournament title last season, is now signed through the 2028-2029 season.

Following a high school basketball career that included being named Illinois Player of the Year twice, Scheyer, 36, went on to play for Duke and graduate from the North Carolina school in 2010 after winning a national championship.

"Jon Scheyer has seamlessly continued the championship culture in Duke Basketball with his relentless energy, passion and attention to detail," Nina King, Duke University vice president and director of athletics, said in a statement. "He and his staff hold their team to the highest standard."

Scheyer took over at Duke for Hall of Fame coach Mike Krzyzewski in 2021.

In addition to winning the ACC tournament last season, and securing a spot in the NCAA tournament as a result, Scheyer's Duke team had a 27-9 record, including a 16-0 mark on its home court at Cameron Indoor Stadium. He was the first coach in the history of the ACC to post and undefeated record at home in their debut season.

"The entire Duke community and our fans should be proud of what these young men have accomplished on and off the court with Jon as their head coach," King said. "Our program is in tremendous hands well into the future and I could not be more excited to have Jon lead the way."
