Gravestone Vandalized With Crayons: Northbrook Police Blotter

NORTHBROOK, IL — The following information comes from the Northbrook Police Department and court records as a record of incidents reported to police and those arrested on criminal charges, which represent accusations by the state that are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Everyone arrested is presumed to be innocent unless found guilty in court beyond a reasonable doubt.

ARRESTS

RETAIL THEFT

Lauren Rosenfeldt, of Deerfield, is accused of retail theft, and was arrested at 12:45 p.m. June 13, in the 800 block of Willow Road. The loss prevention staff at the grocery store saw Rosenfeldt conceal several items when she was at the self-checkout counter. When they stopped to speak to her, they realized Rosenfeldt had concealed $328.11 worth of groceries. A court date of July 16 was assigned.

ILLEGAL DRUG POSSESSION

Police stopped a vehicle driven by Brian Galvez, of Chicago, at 7:12 p.m. June 14, due to his Jeep having suspended license plates at Dundee Road and Western Avenue. He also had a canceled driver's license. While inventorying the vehicle, police found glass pipes with drug residue inside and several containers that had a white powdery substance that contained cocaine. Galvez as charged with having a suspended registration, operating an uninsured motor vehicle, no valid driver's license, unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia. His passenger, Shannon Shaughnessy, of Chicago, was charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia. A court date of June 17 was assigned.

WARRANT SERVICE

Jerry O. Rolling, of Chicago, had contacted the Northbrook Police Department at 8:55 p.m. June 17, seeking a ride since he missed the bus. While speaking with Rolling, the officer learned he had an active arrest warrant out of DuPage County for disorderly conduct. Rolling was arrested and provided a court date for the DuPage County case.

Police saw a 2016 black Lexus at 1:18 a.m. June 14, at Cotsword Way and Dundee Road, that had been reported stolen out of Darien on June 13. The vehicle was parked on a side street with two occupants. As the officer drove up to the vehicle, the driver of the Lexus fled at a high rate of speed. The officer activated their emergency lights, but the vehicle fled out of Northbrook.

BURGLARY TO VEHICLES

Northbrook police responded to three reports of vehicle burglaries throughout Northbrook at 2:11 a.m. June 14. Someone had gained entry because the vehicles were unlocked or by smashing a window. One of the vehicle owners stated the offender stole two or three shirts valued $100.

COMMERCIAL BURGLARY

  • A citizen called police at 9:59 a.m. June 16, to report someone had broken into the suite next to his office in the 1300 block of Shermer Road and smashed out the drywall to gain access to his suite. The person broke into his safe, but only junk jewelry and collector playing cards were inside.
  • Police found a vehicle with its taillights at 12:54 a.m. June 18, at an auto dealership in the 100 block of Skokie Boulevard. When the officer drove closer, he saw someone quickly cover his face and enter that vehicle. The vehicle quickly fled the business. The officer attempted to stop the fleeing vehicle, but the driver refused to stop and fled out of Northbrook. When the officer returned to the business, he noticed the service entrance door had been smashed. No one was located inside, and nothing appeared to be missing.

PHONE SCAM

An Aspen Road resident reported at 3:22 p.m. June 16, receiving a phone call from someone claiming to be from the Publisher’s Clearing House. The person told the complainant that he had won the grand prize and someone from the Federal Trade Commission would be in touch with him to facilitate the winnings. When the other person called, he advised the complainant to pay fees for the winnings. Over the course of a week, the complainant sent out over $81,000 to various locations. The complainant later realized it was a scam.

VANDALISM

The Northbrook public works staff reported at 1:56 p.m. June 17, someone had written lettering on a gravestone at a Northbrook cemetery in the 3700 block of Dundee Road. The staff said the words were illegible but appeared to be written in crayons.

EMAIL SCAM

A Woodlawn Drive resident reported at 5 p.m. June 19, receiving an email regarding his dissolved online company. The email indicated he still had funds available to him, and he should click on the link in the email to receive them. The complainant followed the instructions but realized later that he had opened his account to whoever sent the email. The unknown person retained access to the complainant’s account and withdrew $130,000.
