ID Of Man Killed In Northbrook Car Crash Released: Coroner

The 60-year-old was an occupant of one of three cars involved in a crash that shut down a portion of I-94 Monday afternoon.

NORTHBROOK, IL — A Waukegan man was killed Monday afternoon following a three-vehicle crash on Interstate 94 at Dundee Road near Route 41 in Northbrook. Martin Maldonado-Velazquez, 60, died from blunt force injuries as a result of the crash, according to the Lake County Coroner's Office.

At around 12:30 p.m. Monday, the Illinois State Police and the Northbrook Fire Department responded to the crash and found three vehicles, one off the roadway, with heavy damage. Maldonado-Velazquez was taken to Endeavor Health Highland Park Hospital where he was pronounced dead in the emergency room.

The crash, which remains under investigation by the ISP, shut down the southbound lanes of I-94, as well as the Dundee Road southbound ramp to I-94. Lake Cook Road southbound lanes to I-94 were also closed. Northbrook police assisted Illinois State Police with the closure of ramps on the Edens Expressway.
