As the homeowner was talking to the man in his doorway, he walked past the resident and into the kitchen. He stayed by the kitchen faucet for five to 10 minutes. The homeowner didn’t think the man was a public works employee and the homeowner said he was going to call police. When the man heard this he left.
The homeowner saw him leaving in a tan minivan. A mailman informed police that he had observed a similar vehicle on a nearby street. Officers responded to the street and located the vehicle parked in a driveway in the 1700 block of Oak St. and identified the man as Nicholas Miller, 23, of the 3600 block of Long Dr. in St. Louis. Miller told officers that he was going door to door looking for repair work in the neighborhood.
Officers placed him into custody along with a passenger in the vehicle. Miller was charged with residential burglary, driving with a suspended license, no insurance and a cracked front windshield. The passenger was released without charges. Miller was held awaiting transportation to Skokie Bond Court.
