Man Sends Nude Photos To Dating App Scammer: Northbrook Police Blotter

The scammer demanded money from him, otherwise she was going to send his nude photos to his friends and family.

NORTHBROOK, IL — The following information comes from the Northbrook Police Department and court records as a record of incidents reported to police and those arrested on criminal charges, which represent accusations by the state that are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Everyone arrested is presumed to be innocent unless found guilty in court beyond a reasonable doubt.

ARRESTS

NO VALID DRIVER'S LICENSE

Yevhenii Holovanchykov, of Northbrook, is accused of having a suspended registration, no valid driver's license, operating an uninsured motor vehicle, and was arrested at 6:44 p.m. Aug. 29, at Techny and Pfingsten roads. A court date of Sept. 10 was assigned.

EXTORTION

Young Chang, of Northbrook, had an active warrant out of Michigan for extortion, and was arrested at 7 p.m. Aug. 29. He was taken to the Cook County Jail for an extradition hearing.

A resident in the 700 block of Ballantrae Drive reported at 8:12 p.m. Aug. 29, her family had parked their 2013 gray Mercedes at their condominium parking space. A few days later, they noticed the vehicle was missing. The condominium management said the vehicle was not towed away for any reason, so it must have been stolen. The complainant said they still had the ignition key in their possession and did not know how the offender stole the vehicle.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE TO VEHICLE

The owner of a 2016 black Chevrolet Suburban reported at 11:04 a.m. Aug. 29, he had parked the car in front of an address in the 2800 block of Dundee Road. When he returned the car three hours later, he noticed someone had scratched the passenger side of the vehicle. The scratches were vertical and horizontal across the paint of the vehicle. The owner did not know who committed the damage.

PHONE SCAM

A Dundee Road resident called police at 10:52 a.m. Sept. 1, to report he had received a phone call from a subject stating he was a representative of his bank. He advised him his account had fraudulent activity on it. He was told he needed to withdraw $15,000 and deposit it into another account at another bank to make sure the money was not lost. The complainant followed the instructions and traveled down to Chicago to deposit the money at a separate bank. The person then asked the complainant to withdraw another $6,000 and deposit it at another bank, which the complainant did. Later, after checking with his bank, the complainant was told he was scammed out of $21,000 and nothing was wrong with his accounts.

FLEEING AND ELUDING

Police saw a black motorcycle traveling at a high rate of speed at 11:12 p.m. Sept. 1, at Dundee and Pfingsten roads. The officer measured the motorcycle's speed at 80 mph in a 40 mph zone. The officer noticed the motorcycle accelerating up to 92 mph. When he attempted to stop the motorcycle, the driver fled. The motorcycle was last seen traveling out of Northbrook on to the Edens Expressway.

ONLINE SCAM

A Skokie Boulevard resident reported at 8:47 p.m. Sept. 2, he had subscribed to a dating app with his profile loaded on it. During an online conversation with an unknown female, the complainant was encouraged to send nude pictures of himself, and the person would send some of her to him. The complainant obliged, but then received text messages from the female. She demanded money from him, otherwise she was going to send out his nude photos to his friends and family. The complainant contacted the police immediately for help.

BURGLARY TO VEHICLE

  • A complainant reported at 5:54 a.m. Sept. 3, that their factory's surveillance system captured two people crawling underneath their gate in the 2300 block of Shermer Road. The pair walked to their delivery truck, a 2015 Freightliner, and stole the engine control module after breaking through the passenger door.
  • An employee of a plumbing service reported at 6:45 p.m. Sept. 3, someone had broken into their unlocked work trailer in the 1900 block of Techny Road and stole their pipe camera system and concrete saw. The total loss was $15,000.
  • The staff at a company in the 2700 block of Shermer Road called police at 1:11 p.m. Sept. 4, to report someone had broken into red Freightliner and took the dashboard apartment to steal the engine control module. It was unknown if the vehicle was left unlocked. The estimated value of the module was $1,250.
