Northbrook Farmers Market Nears Opening Day, Will Celebrate Chamber

An opening day bash is planned for the market in the parking lot of Meadow Plaza, Cherry Lane and Meadow Road.

NORTHBROOK, IL — Dale Duda, manager of the Northbrook Farmers Market, says there are plans to do something a little different this year on opening day. The market will celebrate the 75th anniversary of the Northbrook Chamber of Commerce, naming the guest of honor on Wednesday, June 18.

"We're looking forward to Ms. [Kathi] Quinn (Chamber president) and her team presiding at our brief ceremony that officially opens the market season, and in joining their celebration of small, local businesses, which are at the heart of our market and community," Duda tells Patch.

The fun begins at 7 a.m. and runs to 1 p.m. at the market's location in the parking lot of Meadow Plaza, Cherry Lane and Meadow Road. Free attractions on opening day include live music, face painting, free slices of cold watermelon, games for kids, plenty of cool swag and more.

As is tradition, a watermelon-cutting ceremony is scheduled for 10 a.m., which officially opens the season.

"We are excited to join the farmers market during this milestone anniversary year and celebrate the contributions of small businesses since our founding in 1950," said Quinn, who will slice the ceremonial watermelon. "We love that the farmers market is a hub of small businesses, giving them an opportunity to grow and thrive in our community."

As a member of the Chamber and incubator of small businesses, Northbrook Farmers Market supports the Chamber's 75th year theme, "Celebrating the Magic of Small Business."

Duda says the "best weekday farmers market on the North Shore" was recently named one of 15 throughout the Chicagoland area as "Worth A Visit" by Chicago Public Media.

The market is open, rain or shine, through, Oct. 8. Duda added that there will be three new vendors in 2025. For more information, visit www.NorthbrookFarmersMarket.org.
