Northbrook Fire Chief Named Honored Guest For Veterans Day Ceremony

David Schweihs, who served in the Navy, will speak at Northbrook Junior High School.

NORTHBROOK, IL — Northbrook Fire Chief David Schweihs will be the honored guest at a Veterans Day ceremony Tuesday at Northbrook Junior High School. Organized annually by the school and George W. Benjamin American Legion Post 791, the ceremony begins at 10:30 a.m., according to Northbrook District 28.

Schweihs, who was named fire chief in 2023, has more than 27 years of career fire service experience. In addition to managing the department, he is also the Village of Northbrook's emergency management coordinator.

The district said Schweihs, who will speak at the ceremony, served active duty in the United States Navy. He was assigned to the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Constellation CV-64. While in the United States Naval Reserve, Schweihs was assigned to the Seabees Naval Mobile Construction Battalion 1625, where he was a Heavy Equipment Operator 2nd Class Petty Officer.

In addition to the fire chief's speech, the ceremony will feature performances by the Northbrook Junior High choir, philharmonic orchestra, and chamber orchestra, followed by a rifle salute and the playing of taps outside.
