Northbrook-On-Ice Returns, Adds Sensory-Friendly Show
Performances are planned Thursday through Sunday at the Northbrook Park District's Sports Center.

NORTHBROOK, IL — Like it has since 1969, Northbrook-On-Ice is set to dazzle local audiences with performances scheduled for Thursday through Sunday at the Northbrook Park District's Sports Center, 1730 Pfingsten Road. New this year will be a sensory-friendly show, set to kick off the event at 6 p.m. Thursday.
"I get excited the day we begin to talk about the next show, and when the set goes up, my heart swells," said Deanna Joyce, coach and choreographer. "The hardest moment for me is Sunday night when the curtain closes for the last time. I know the next show is just around the corner, and soon we will begin the creative process again, but the magic of Northbrook-On-Ice is something I can’t describe in words."
The year's show, which will feature skaters from all levels, is called, "Skate In Paradise." In addition to the sensory-friendly show, performances are 7 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m 4 p.m. Saturday, and 1 p.m. Sunday.

According to NPD, about 260 talented skaters, from toddlers to high schoolers, "will glide and spin on the ice." The theme will transport audiences on a warm tropical vacation with beachy tunes, evoking the palm trees and blue skies of the Caribbean. Show planning and preparation began last July.
"Northbrook-On-Ice is such an amazing event to create every year," said Ania Lopez, NPD ice skating supervisor. "The excitement we get to witness from the participating skaters and their parents warms my heart."
