Northbrook Ineligible For Flood Relief Funds

The following report was part of Northbrook's weekly village staff memo.

The Public Works Department had recently received word that President Obama has approved the State of Illinois’ request for federal aid to assist local governments with costs related to the flooding event on April18, 2013.

Prior to the declaration, Public Works staff worked with the Police and Fire Departments to compile the Village’s eligible costs and submitted the information to the Cook County Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management.

A total of 24 counties were included in the declaration, however expenditures associated with the response in Cook County did not meet the required threshold. This means that the Village will not be eligible for reimbursement of costs associated with the storm response.

Despite this, residents in Cook County are still eligible for assistance including grants for repairs to essential household items and low interest loans for residential or business losses. Information regarding the programs will continue to be posted to the Village’s website as it is made available.
