Bowling Alley Customer Shouts Racial Slurs At Staff: Northbrook Police Blotter

Police said the Glencoe man had ordered drinks at the bar and got angry when he received his check.

NORTHBROOK, IL — The following information comes from the Northbrook Police Department and court records as a record of incidents reported to police and those arrested on criminal charges, which represent accusations by the state that are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Everyone arrested is presumed to be innocent unless found guilty in court beyond a reasonable doubt.

ARRESTS

DRIVING UNDER THE INFLUENCE

  • Antonio D. Perez, of Chicago, is accused of driving under the influence, DUI combo of drugs/alcohol, and was arrested at 11:32 p.m. Dec. 19, in the 1500 block of Lake Cook Road. Police found his 2008 black Toyota Camry parked on the sidewalk. They said Perez appeared unconscious, with the vehicle still running and in gear. While trying to attend to Perez and place his vehicle into park, police said he gained consciousness. Perez then pressed on the gas pedal and drove his vehicle into a tree. He did not sustain any injuries. A court date of Jan. 16 was assigned.
  • Demetrios Giannakopoulos, of Skokie, is accused of DUI, operating an uninsured motor vehicle, and was arrested at 1:43 a.m. Dec. 20, at Cherry and Butternut Lane. Police found his 2022 gray Ford Bronco parked half in the roadway and half on the curb. They said Giannakopoulos appeared intoxicated and had just vomited. A court date of Jan. 16 was assigned.
  • Bilguun Oyunsuren, of Prospect Heights, is accused of improper lane usage, DUI, and was arrested at 1:58 a.m. Dec. 21, at Dundee and Sanders roads. A court date of Jan. 16, was assigned.
  • Shakur T. Silas, of Chicago is accused of DUI, DUI with a blood alcohol concentration level of .08 or more, driving while license suspended, operating an uninsured motor vehicle, illegal transportation of alcohol, suspended registration, and was arrested at 5:33 p.m. Dec. 23, in the 1800 block of Skokie Boulevard. The staff of a business had called police after they saw Silas reportedly asleep at the wheel of his 2006 black BMW 5 series. Police found him sleeping in the car with it still running, as well as alcoholic beverages near Silas. They attempted several times to wake him with no success, but eventually were able to. They said he had trouble explaining who he was. A court date of Jan. 9 was assigned.

THEFT OF LABOR AND SERVICES

James J. Stack III, of Glencoe, is accused of theft of labor and services, and was arrested at 7 p.m. Dec. 22, at the Northbrook police station. The staff at a dining/bowling alley establishment said Stack had ordered drinks at the bar. When he finished, the staff provided him with the bill to pay. Stack became angry and started yelling. After yelling racial slurs at the staff, he left without paying. Officers drove to his apartment to speak to him about the crime, but he refused to open his door. He eventually turned himself in. A court date of Jan. 27 was assigned.

DISORDERLY CONDUCT

Robert L. Martin, of Northbrook, is accused of disorderly conduct, and was arrested at 11:10 a.m. Dec. 24, in the 700 block of Skokie Boulevard. A complainant told police a 2014 grey Mercedes, driven by Martin, changed lanes quickly in front of her, causing her to honk her horn. After driving behind the vehicle for a short distance, they both stopped at a red light. Martin then reportedly exited his vehicle and walked back toward the complainant's vehicle, waving a wooden club at her. The complainant called 911 and officers responded to their location. A court date is set for Feb. 6.

INCIDENTS

CRIMINAL DAMAGE TO VEHICLE

  • A citizen reported at 3:36 p.m. Dec. 19, that he had attempted to park in a space with his 2025 blue Honda in the 4100 block of Dundee Road. A female was standing in the spot holding it for someone. When he asked her to move so he could have the spot, she walked away. After he returned to his vehicle two hours later, there were several scratches across the hood.
  • A resident in the 3000 block of Phesant Creek Drive reported at noon Dec. 21, he had parked his 2020 Nissan just outside his home at night. When he returned, he noticed someone had shattered his sunroof, punctured the roof and forced the lock cover off from its driver's side door. The complainant stated he did not know who might have done the damage.

THEFT

A citizen reported at 5:05 p.m. Dec. 19, that he had arrived at his fitness center in the 4100 block of Dundee Road and had placed his North Face Puffer 700 jacket in an unlocked locker. When he returned to the locker, the jacket was stolen. The stolen jacket was worth $600.

BURGLARY TO VEHICLE

Two citizens reported at 5:11 p.m. Dec. 22, that they had parked their cars in the parking lot at their fitness center in the 4100 block of Dundee Road. When they returned less than two hours later, they noticed their rear passenger windows were shattered. One victim had his wallet stolen from inside his car, which contained his ID and credit cards inside. The other victim had her purse stolen which contained an ID, credit cards and $100.

RETAIL THEFT

The loss prevention staff at a store in the 1400 block of Lake Cook Road reported at 2:22 p.m. Dec. 23, that while reviewing surveillance footage from Nov. 15, they found that a retail theft had occurred. The footage showed a female walking into the store and opening a display case to retrieve a pair of Burberry gloves worth $320. The female hid them under her arm and fled out the exit without paying for them.
