Northbrook: A Tree City USA Community

The Village of Northbrook was recognized as a “Tree City USA Community” for 2012, the 19th straight year the village has received this distinction. To receive the Tree City USA recognition, communities must have a forestry department/staff, a tree-care ordinance and observe Arbor Day with a proclamation and event.

Communities must also have a forestry budget of at least $2.00 per capita; with Northbrook’s trimming of roughly 1,400 parkway trees and planting of 300 to 350 trees each year, that commitment is easily met. Residents seeking more information on the Village’s forestry services can visit the Public Works Department’s website.
