Northbrook Native Is Northwestern's New Head Basketball Coach
Northwestern University announced Wednesday that Duke University associate coach Chris Collins will take over as head men's basketball coach for the Wildcats next year.
Northbrook native and Duke University associate head coach Chris Collins will take over as head men’s basketball coach for the Wildcats next year, Northwestern University announced Wednesday.
Collins replaces Bill Carmody, who was let go after 13 years as head of the men’s basketball program last week.
“We’re thrilled to welcome Chris, his wife, Kim, and their children, Ryan and Kate, home to Chicago and into the Northwestern family,” vice president for athletics and recreation Jim Phillips said in a release. “He has a tremendous pedigree as a basketball coach and will be an outstanding leader for Chicago’s Big Ten Team, and mentor for our student-athletes.”

Collins attended Glenbrook North High School and went on to Duke University, where he set records for three-point field goals (209) and three-point field goal attempts (539). He has served on the coaching staff at Duke since 2000, during which time, the Blue Devils compiled a record of 356-72, winning eight ACC tournament championships and two national championships, in 2001 and 2010.
"Northwestern University is a special place that strives for excellence in every regard, and our program will be no different,” Collins said. “I can't possibly thank Coach Krzyzewski and Duke University enough for preparing me for this day."
