Northbrook Park District’s Techny Prairie Activity Center offering zero enrollment fee special in September

Celebrating its 5th anniversary in January, TPAC offers a modern facility, comprehensive fitness/wellness programming, and supportive staff

With the busy months of summer now over, this is the perfect time to dive back into fitness and well-being by joining the Northbrook Park District’s Techny Prairie Activity Center, which is waiving enrollment fees for new members through Sept. 30.

Techny Prairie Activity Center (TPAC) is a modern and spacious facility that will celebrate its 5th anniversary in January.

The building features two spacious group class studios, a state-of-the-art 6,000-square-foot fitness center, and an elevated indoor track with gorgeous nature views. Members also enjoy open gym times for basketball, pickleball and volleyball.

More than 50 group fitness classes are offered weekly, including Zumba, Groov3, Barre Sculpt, Les Mills Body Pump, Bootcamp, Chair Yoga, Essentrics, Mat Pilates, WOW (Wonderful Overall Workout), Tabata, Cycle and many more.

In addition to group fitness classes, TPAC also offers comprehensive fitness and wellness programming, such as OsteoFit Fusion, designed for those managing osteoporosis, PWR (Parkinson Wellness Recovery) for those managing Parkinson’s disease, and Live Well, Move Strong, for those dealing with cancer.

A great membership perk is access to the park district’s outdoor pools for aqua fitness classes at Sports Center Pool, and outdoor lap swimming/water walking at Meadowhill Aquatic Center and Sports Center Pool.

Joining TPAC is much more than having access to great gym equipment and fitness classes, Member Services Supervisor Kristina Jeluso said.

“It’s about becoming part of a community that’s supportive and committed to helping you reach your goals,” she said. “Whether you're just starting your fitness journey or looking to take it to the next level, TPAC offers the space, the energy and the people to keep you moving forward."

Experienced, certified personal trainers encourage and assist members of all ages and fitness levels in their journey toward optimal health. Personal training can help improve strength, flexibility and overall fitness while increasing motivation, accountability and variety in workouts. A variety of packages for 30-minute and 60-minute personal training sessions are available for purchase.

To cater to different interests, TPAC’s lineup of special classes is regularly updated.

In September, in honor of National Yoga Month, members can enjoy these special classes at no charge:

  • Breathe & Blend Hatha Yoga (Sept. 12)
  • Balance in Motion Workshop (Sept. 17)
  • Yoga Pajama Party (Sept. 19)
  • Meditation (Sept. 20)

Current TPAC members encourage others to take advantage of the September enrollment special.

"I love TPAC, it is one of the best gym environments I've been to,” said Nancy Brokamp, a member for three years. "I enjoy the commitment and friendliness of the staff. They're always willing to give advice and support. The personal trainers are great!"

Member Brian Henkels, who joined two years ago, said he enjoys TPAC’s overall sense of community wellness. "It's a wonderful value for the money, with a lot of great people supporting your fitness goals.”

TPAC membership types include youth (ages 11-12), teen (ages 13-17), adult (18-64) and senior (65 and up), as well as indoor track-only memberships, and military and veteran memberships.

In addition, TPAC is also home to a wide range of Northbrook Park District activities for all ages, from children to seniors, while construction takes place at the park district’s Leisure Center through spring 2026. TPAC membership is not required for these activities.

For young people, the offerings include dance, music, theater and sports classes, with plenty of opportunities for learning, social connection and active fun throughout the year. (Program registration required at nbparks.org)

Seniors can enjoy free drop-in programs at TPAC with a Senior Center membership, including bridge, canasta, bingo, movie nights, pickleball and more, all great opportunities for socialization and new friendships. (Senior Center membership is $30 for park district residents and $45 for non-residents per year).
